The Vitamin A Caution, Which Matters Most
Gelagen contains vitamin A, and vitamin A is the one nutrient in this formula with a genuine upper limit. It is fat soluble, which means the body stores it rather than excreting what it does not need, and high intakes over time are a real concern rather than a theoretical one.

Biotin And Laboratory Tests
This is the second thing on this page that genuinely matters, and it is almost never mentioned by anyone selling a hair, skin and nails product.
Biotin interferes with a large number of laboratory immunoassays, because those tests use a biotin-streptavidin binding system in their chemistry. High circulating biotin can push a result falsely high or falsely low depending on how the test is built. Thyroid panels and cardiac troponin are the two that matter most, and the FDA has issued safety communications about it after a case in which a falsely low troponin contributed to a missed heart attack.
Biotin does not harm you. It can distort a test somebody is using to make a decision, so say that you take it.
Who Should Not Take Gelagen
- Anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, without medical advice.
- Anyone under eighteen.
- Anyone on a prescription retinoid.
- Anyone with a known allergy to any ingredient on the panel.
- Anyone with liver disease, because vitamin A is stored and processed there.
